Princesshay comes alive with dancers, singers and comedians for Dancing in the Streets Festival

Visitors to Princesshay experienced the start of the summer festival vibe on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 of June with dancers, singers and comedians performing throughout each day of the 2013 Dancing in the Streets Festival.

The festival opened with Vibes Dance Company’s rendition of Gentleman by PSY - the mastermind behind the Gangnam Style phenomenon. With over 40 dancers from the company performing in perfect timing and oozing energy.

Crowds gathered in warm and sunny Princesshay Square to watch the amazing routines being performed by the talented dancers and were queuing up to join in the Swagga, Zumba, Bokwa and Ballrooms workshops.

Mandi Wall, Joint Director of Dancing in the Streets and Founder of Vibes Dance Company said: “The festival has been amazing and in my view, the best ever! But I couldn’t have done it without the support of the ladies from my Swagga, Zumba and Bokwa classes and I like to say a huge thank you to them all. The energy, laughter and enthusiasm from each and every one was incredible”.

Phil Young from Phonic FM warmed up the Sunday crowd in his bright blue leotard and hoola hoop in preparation for the headlining act Sound of the Sirens. Staff from the centre’s restaurants came out to enjoy the day’s festivities and were truly ‘dancing in the streets’.

Marina O’Shea, Dancing in the Streets Festival Manager said: “The event was bigger and better than we could have hoped or planned for. All of the acts involved performed amazingly and we’re looking forward to the next one”.

The festival in its fourth year nominated WESC Foundation as their event day charity. Visitors and participants over the weekend donated over £600 which will help the foundation provide life enhancing opportunities for each child and young person at WESC. This money makes a real difference to the children and young people at WESC supporting them to reach their full potential.
