OS is running a contest to find a new front cover image for its popular OL 28 Dartmoor Explorer map.

The competition, run in conjunction with Dartmoor National Park, intends to find a beautiful image to represent the picturesque moorland in 2021.

It is being held to commemorate 70 years of National Parks.

The contest is open to any walker or photography enthusiast who feels they have pictures in their digital archives good enough to become the winning image.

Due to the latest lockdown and government advice OS is asking people please do not travel to Dartmoor to take photos.

Instead from the comfort of your own home, delve into your memories, pick your favourites, and submit them into the competition.

The winner of the competition will receive the new map with their photo on the front cover, the new range of OS official branded products and to top it all off, a signed copy of Jo Bradford’s book ‘Smart phone, Smart photography’ and a print of one of her Dartmoor photographs.

How to enter

Email your photo(s) to dartmoorphoto@os.uk along with the following information:

  • Your full name and postal address
  • The map – OL 28 Dartmoor
  • The location from which your photo was taken or the location which is depicted in the photo (e.g OL 28 Dartmoor – view of River Dart looking West from Two Bridges).
  • Indicate the location by inserting the grid coordinates.

The closing date is Thursday 25 February 2021.

After the closing date has passed, 10 photos will be selected by a panel of judges from both Ordnance Survey and Dartmoor National Park.

The overall winner will then be selected by OS.

OS will publish the new map with the winning photo on its cover in June.

More information about photo requirements and the terms and conditions of the contest is available here.
