New faces at region’s leading heritage charity
The Westcountry's leading combined heritage and leisure charity has appointed two new trustees to its Board.
Welcomed by fellow trustees at South West Lakes Trust's recent board meeting were Devon farmer and businessman, John Lee and Dinah Nichols, the former Director General Environment at DEFRA and Board member of Pennon Group who currently chairs the charity ‘Keep Britain Tidy'.
Chairman, Keith Bungay, said: "We are fortunate to have attracted the commitment of two very experienced and extremely able non-executive directors and trustees. They bring additional skills to our board and will make a great contribution to our success over the coming months and years."
The new trustees saw the charity's environmental and outdoor activities work in action on recent visits to seven inland water sites in Cornwall. Meeting fellow trustees at the new Heritage Lottery-funded Discovery Centre, which will be a hub for a major heritage and education project around Burrator.
John Lee was enthusiastic about his new role, saying: "This is an exciting time for South West Lakes Trust and I am pleased to be involved in planning and steering its future. Key to this is building on the success of the trading subsidiary, to ensure that the charity remains sustainable in the long term."
Dinah Nichols agreed, adding: "Ensuring these wonderful assets are available for public enjoyment and safeguarding the countryside in our care for future generations are challenges I am happy to share with the Lakes Trust team."
