Christmas is coming. And for the Deaf Academy who are raising money for their new Academy in Exmouth, this can mean only one thing: a battle of the Christmas jumpers!

Christmas Jumper Day is on Friday 14 December. The ‘EXEmas Jumper EXEtravaganza’ is the first official Christmas Jumper Day for the charity. The new Deaf Academy is under construction at the former Rolle campus in Exmouth and will open its doors in 2020.

The idea is to wear your best festive knit to work - and then make a minimum £2 donation to the New Deaf Academy Appeal. Some groups organise additional fundraising activities on the day such as a festive cake sale.  To take part visit: newdeafacademy.org.uk/christmasjumperday

It is hoped that local businesses will get behind their Christmas Jumper Day by wearing flashing, festive knits. Donations will help raise money to buy the vital pieces of equipment needed to make the Deaf Academy in Exmouth truly world class.

By taking part in the woolly fun and donating £2, your money will help to:

  • Kit out a residential bedroom to create a safe, homely space for a deaf child
  • Equip a specialist classroom
  • Install vital acoustics to maximize a deaf child’s access to sound

Sarah Shaw, New Deaf Academy Appeal Manager said, “We invite businesses to do their bit with a festive knit! We are delighted with the support we’ve had from the local community since plans about our new Deaf Academy were announced. It’s our seasonal challenge to local businesses and I really hope that they get their jumpers on and support us. Our deaf young people are so inspirational and have overcome many challenges. Please join in and give something back this Christmas”.
