Police are appealing for witnesses to a collision in which a motorcyclist died near Okehampton on Tuesday 30 June.

The collision, involving a John Deere tractor with slurry tanker and a blue Suzuki GSXR motorcycle, happened on the A3079 outside Yelland Cottage, Fowley Cross, at 3.10pm.

Officers and an air ambulance attended. The first police officer arriving at the scene carried out emergency treatment on the 45-year-old male motorcyclist, from St Austell, with assistance from members of the public.

Despite their efforts the motorcyclist died at the scene. The man’s next of kin has been informed.

The tractor driver, 52, from the local area, was not injured but suffered shock as a result of the collision.

Highways assisted with road closures in the area, which were in place for around six hours to enable a forensic examination of the scene to take place and the vehicles to be recovered.

Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit are keen to speak to any witnesses who have not yet spoken to police.

Anyone with information is asked to email 101@devonandcornwall.pnn.police.uk, or call 101, quoting reference 500 of 30 June.
