Man who died in Exeter lorry crash named

Police have released the name of the pedestrian who died following a collision with a lorry in Exeter on Saturday.

The man has been identified as 77-year old Eric Carnell of Bartholomew Street West in Exeter.

Police, fire and ambulance were called just prior to 1pm on Saturday 25 July to attend Fore Street, Exeter after reports of a collision between a lorry and a pedestrian.

Mr Carnell was pronounced deceased at the hospital shortly after.

Fore Street was closed for around six hours as specialist forensic investigation of the scene took place.

PC Richard Newton from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “This incident took place in Exeter City Centre on a busy Saturday so there would have been a number of witnesses.

"If you witnessed the collision and have yet to speak to the police, please contact us immediately on 101 or 101@devonandcornwall.pnn.police.ukquoting log number 415 of the 25th July.”
