Buglife and Torbay Council are re-launching the “Big Pollinator Survey” as part of the Torbay’s Buzzing! project which is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and aims to help stop the decline in Torbay’s bees, butterflies and other pollinating insects.

People across Torbay are invited to take part in the “Big Pollinator Survey” over the Spring and Summer to see how the wildlife on their doorstep is doing. Taking part is easy, and doesn’t require any previous bug knowledge!

Find a copy of the survey form on our website (at https://www.buglife.org.uk/activities-for-you/wildlife-surveys/torbay-bu...), take it out in the garden or to your local park and count the bees, hoverflies and other pollinating insects that you see.  Please send us your results by post, or via our website.

Joanne Gilvear, Buglife’s Torbay’s Buzzing! Officer said “We are re-launching this survey by teaming up with Torbay Coast and Countryside Trust to do a Bug Hunt at Cockington on Wednesday 12th April from 10:00 to 14:00, which is during the Easter Holidays. It would be great if lots of people could come along to this fun and educational day.

The pollinator survey will help us get a better understanding of the types and numbers of our key pollinating insects in Torbay.  We also hope that adults and children will enjoy getting to know the wildlife on their doorstep.”

Joanne added “Torbay’s Buzzing! has planted meadows and pollinator cafes across Torquay, Paignton and Brixham.  The result of the survey will help us to understand how the project is benefitting our local wildlife.  We need as many people as possible to get involved so please take five minutes to get involved in our Big Pollinator Survey!”
