The Met Office is forecasting yet more rain over the next few days.

A spokesman said further rain is likely in southwest England through the next few days bringing a medium flood risk, with further significant disruption from river and surface water flooding possible across Cornwall, Devon and Somerset.

Meanwhile, the A396 Devon - A396 Stoke Road was this morning closed in both directions between the A377 Cowley Bridge Road junction in Exeter and the Green Lane junction in Rewe, because of flooding.

Forecast for Christmas:

Today: Another spell of rain, heavy in places will affect all parts through the morning, and will bring the risk of further flooding in places.

Somewhat drier conditions developing in the afternoon, but with a few showers. Breezy in the west.

Maximum Temperature 10 °C. Tonight: Dry for a time with clear spells for most, although patchy rain may affect Dorset early on.

Showers will however become more frequent and locally heavy through the early hours. Minimum Temperature 6 °C.

Tuesday: Some sunny spells, but also plenty of showers, some of which will be on the heavy side. Brisk westerly winds, particularly around coasts in the west. Maximum Temperature 10 °C.
