Historic Dartmoor town launches new destination website

The Chagford and District Business Association announced the launch of its new destination website, ‘Visit Chagford’.

Chagford is a beautiful Stannary Town on the edge of Dartmoor but it’s also a powerhouse of history, legend, creative activities, art galleries, delightful independent shops and quirky attractions like the river-fed ‘wild’ swimming pool.

Plus it has truly remarkable foodie credentials with world-famous Gidleigh Park Hotel with Head Chef Michael Caines MBE, and 22 Mill Street, a two AA Rosetted restaurant with rooms, plus a great selection of historic hostelries and delicatessens.  It really is ‘The Jewel of Dartmoor.’

Chagford’s historic market square contains a large number of beautifully preserved 15th and 16th century buildings; the ghost of the ‘Chagford Cavalier’ provides local hauntings and the ‘Real Lorna Doone’, Mary Whiddon, said to have inspired R.D. Blackmore, lived here. The place is full of local legend. In fact its special character and location has attracted many artists, celebrities and other fascinating folk to settle here.

Chagford should definitely be on the list of every visitor who wants to experience the very best of Dartmoor.

It’s just 40 minutes from Exeter airport and only about 15 miles from the M5 motorway through the West Country. Anyone who has visited knows that it is definitely worth making a special trip to Chagford.

www.visitchagford.com is supported by West Devon Borough Council and aims to provide a wide range of useful information to help visitors plan their stays with a variety of accommodation on offer. There’s also a calendar of events aimed at the visitor including the popular annual film festival, the new literary festival ‘ChagWord’ and much more.

The ‘Things to Do’ section on the new website offers a great variety of outdoor pursuits for all ages including bird watching, cycling, fishing, riding, rock climbing, swimming, shopping and walking as well as lots to do for children.

Neil Tappenden, the driving force behind the new website said, We want visitors to be able to plan and get the most out of their visit to Dartmoor and Chagford really is the perfect base.  It’s also an exciting destination for a day trip with lunch, walks and shopping, all steeped in history.  We are confident that the new website will help us attract new visitors all year round.“

The Chagford and District Business Association put together a team of specialists to deliver the new site, which launched on time and on budget.

As part of its new digital marketing strategy, Visit Chagford has also launched brand-new Twitter and Facebook pages.
