Get ready for more flooding across Devon

Emergency services have been meeting to discuss the heavy rain forecast for tomorrow, Thursday and Friday. This is in response to an amber rain warning issued by the Met Office for the South West, which comes into force from midnight tonight (Monday 28th January).

The warning of heavy rain for the region is on top of an already existing yellow warning in place today. A Met Office spokesperson said "Further rain will spread northeastwards across Wales and South West England early on Tuesday, becoming heavy and persistent in places before clearing again overnight. Given saturated ground, the public should be prepared for further localised flooding and disruption to travel, particularly in parts of Devon and South Wales."

The Environment Agency has issued Flood Alerts for Hemyock, Cullompton, Stoke Canon, Broadclyst and Clyst St Mary as well as the Lower River Exe from Tiverton to Exeter, including Bickleigh and Stoke Canon areas: Flooding is expected from early tomorrow morning. About 30 mm of rain is forecast overnight, with some heavy bursts that could lead to totals of up to 50 mm. There is a potential of flooding from all watercourses and also a risk of local flooding from surface water runoff. Flood Alerts are likely to remain in force for several days.

Rush hour tomorrow is likely to see a peak in heavy rainfall, so drivers are urged to take extra care on the roads.
