Firm backs campaign for access to legal advice by taking to the road

A legal team from Exeter solicitors Cartridges Law will be taking to the road this May in support of the Law Society’s national campaign to ensure everyone has access to legal advice when they need it.

They will be holding free legal drop in sessions in St Thomas and Pathfinder Village over four dates in May and September.

The Law Society is campaigning to improve access to justice for all, regardless of social background or wealth. Details about the campaign can be found here https://www.lawsociety.org.uk/policy-campaigns/campaigns/access-to-justice/

The Law Society says: ‘Ordinary people are finding it more difficult to access justice because of issues including legal aid cuts, court closures and increased court fees, as well as changes to the rules regarding the legal costs a client can recover’.

Penny Scott, who is chair of the Law Society’s family law committee and partner at Cartridges Law, said: ‘At Cartridges Law we have always believed that law must be fair and accessible to people, and should not be restricted by their background or their ability to pay.

‘We welcome the Law Society’s campaign and wanted to demonstrate our support by offering these free advice sessions. Our drop-ins are intended for anyone who has a legal problem, issue or question, however big or small.’

No appointments will be necessary, people can just turn up on the day and talk to one of the Cartridges Law team to identify whether the issue is one with a legal remedy and whether there are options for funding a case.

Penny added: ‘From our Radio show Legally Speaking (on Radio Exe), we understand that legal problems come in all shapes and sizes and affect all kinds of people. Like Legally Speaking, Legally Meeting is an opportunity for you to ask Cartridges Law about your legal issue, but face-to-face and in private.’

Paul Nero, managing director of Radio Exe, said: ‘At Radio Exe we are delighted to support Cartridges Law with this campaign. We are a radio station which is based in the heart of our community and we care about supporting the people of Exeter. Activities like this are just one of the ways that we can do that.

'Legally Meeting is another way of accessing the knowledgeable lawyers behind Legally Speaking, which airs on Radio Exe on Fridays at 1pm. It’s also available as a free podcast; just search for Radio Exe on your podcast provider.'

The drop-ins will take place:

Pathfinder Village Hall, 14 May 2019 (10am to 12pm)

St Thomas Church, 29 May 2019 (1pm to 3pm)

St Thomas Church, 4 September (1pm to 3pm)

Pathfinder Village Hall, 24 September 2019 (10am to 12pm)
