Fire crews called to two serious crashes in Devon

One Fire Engine from Chard, one from Ilminster and one from Honiton, were sent to a report of a two vehicle road traffic collision on the A303 Eastbound between Upottery and the Devon border.

The incident involved a two vehicle road traffic collision with five people inside.  Four of the casualties were released by fire service personnel using hydraulic cutting equipment and small tools.

They were then transported to hospital by land ambulance.

The road was closed for several hours following the incident at 16:37 yesterday (SUNDAY).

In an earlier incident at 15:58 fire appliances from Okehampton, one from Hatherleigh and the Heavy Rescue Vehicle from Middlemoor were sent to a report of a road traffic collision on the A30 West Bound between Sourton and Stowford Cross, Near Okehampton.

On arrival crews confirmed that the collision involved one car which had left the carriageway and rolled approximately 40 metres down the embankment  Access to the vehicle was difficult due to surrounding woodland

At 17:57 two casualties were released by fire service personnel using power rescue tools, lines, small tools, stabfast equipment (for vehicle stabilisation) and a stretcher. Theywere subsequently transported to hospital by land ambulance.
