The Legal Aid Lawyer of the Year (LALY) awards shortlist has been announced and flying the flag for the South West is Senior Associate Solicitor Grace Bradley from The Family Law Company who is a finalist in the Family Law category.

Grace joined the company in 2009; her work focuses on complex legal aid cases including child abduction and honour based violence that frequently involve international elements.

This type of case often runs for years, and Grace is tireless in the pursuit of justice for all her clients. She is a skilled linguist and during the pandemic conducted a case, which she won for her client, solely in Spanish.

She is highly regarded by her colleagues including Director Jane Chanot who heads up the Domestic Violence/Private Children and Child Abduction Team. Jane said: “Grace is a brilliant lawyer and goes above and beyond with her client care and the legal advice she gives in the challenging cases she undertakes.”

The LALY Awards, run by the Legal Aid Practitioners Group, are the only awards aimed solely at lawyers doing publicly-funded work, celebrating the vital work of social justice lawyers.

Grace said: “I am so proud to be shortlisted for the legal aid lawyer of the year awards. To even see my name mentioned with so many inspiring lawyers, all of whom work tirelessly to represent the vulnerable and promote access to justice, is very humbling.

“Legal aid gives a voice to so many who without it would be voiceless, so I am truly privileged to work in this field.”

While many law firms are reducing or even cutting their legal aid services, The Family Law Company continues to show full commitment to this challenging area of law by championing legal aid as a positive career choice.

Grace will find out if she won has at the awards being held in central London on July 12.
