Exeter welcomes two new Police Inspectors
Inspectors Nathan Johnson (above) and Dave Turner (first pic) have joined Exeter Police Sector and head up the Neighbourhood Teams between them. They both carry a wealth of experience with Devon & Cornwall Police and are enjoying their new roles.
Inspector Dave Turner joined the police in 2003 and spent five years as a response Police Constable working in Exeter before being promoted to Sergeant. He then worked for two years as a Patrol Sergeant in Exmouth before moving on to be a Custody Sergeant in Exeter for seven years.
From 2017 to 2020 he was the Neighbourhood Sergeant for Exeter City Centre and St Davids. He then became the Geographic Support Inspector for the past four years which covered the Exeter, East and Mid Devon area. This Inspector works alongside the other local Sector and Patrol Inspectors, providing resourcing and strategic support when required.
Inspector Dave Turner commented: “I have been really looking forward to returning to the Exeter neighbourhood team and am proud to take up the post of Sector Inspector for the city in which I have lived and worked for the last 24 years of my life. I am looking forward to serving the people of Exeter and hope to build on the good work of my predecessor, in making sure Exeter stays a safe place for people to live in and enjoy.”
Nathan Johnson is responsible for policing in the city centre and the west of the city plus St David’s. He is joining the Exeter team from the Operations Department at Devon & Cornwall Police where he most recently led the Tactical Firearms Team. He has extensive knowledge and experience of public order policing, both nationally and internationally. Insp Johnson has been involved in the policing of a number of high-profile events, including the G7 summit in 2021.
Nathan explained: “I am passionate about Exeter and have served locally on patrol as a Constable and Sergeant. I have a particular interest in the policing of the night-time economy because we have a large student population here in the city and it’s important we keep them and everyone else safe and deal with any anti-social behaviour which may occur. We work closely with Safer Exeter and have useful initiatives like the Best Bar None licensed premises scheme which aims to reduce alcohol related crime.”
Nathan is also the Chair of Trustees for Exeter Street Pastors. The pastors are volunteers who patrol the city and offer help to vulnerable people who might need assistance – Nathan also works with local students through Exeter Network Church.
The new pair are stepping into the shoes of Exeter Sector Inspector Simon Arliss who has retired after more than seven years in the busy role.
