Exeter church looks for venue to distribute Christmas Hampers

The sunshine is out, but it’s never too early to think about Christmas!

Rediscover Church in Northernhay Street, Exeter, each year puts together hampers packed full of food to give out to people in need during the festive season.

We all know during the Christmas season it can be tough on finances, and these hampers are a much needed boost and relief to help people get by, bringing a smile to people’s faces.

Last year, they gave out a huge 1300+ hampers to families and individuals. A number of these were personally delivered to households.

Recipients included:  Families from 9 primary and secondary schools across Exeter, Julian House, Young Carers, individuals who receive help from the Devon Refugee Network, families connected with the Home Start Charity which supports those going through challenging times, tenants of LiveWest social housing, women who have been victims of domestic violence, YMCA Exeter, and many more.

The church received so many positive comments to say how appreciative they were of the food, when during the Christmas Season there can be so many financial challenges.

With the cost of the living crisis, when finances are even tighter, this year, the church are predicting even MORE of a need for the Christmas Hampers. And are planning on distributing a record breaking number of food hampers to support those through the festive season.

Organisers are currently at the start of organising the hampers project, however they are looking for the people of Exeter to help in an important way.

The church building is busy throughout December due to other community events. So, they are asking if anyone can help with the following:

  • They are looking for another venue in the city which from November will store all the food which will be put in the hampers.
  • Then, in December they are looking for the same (or different venue) to be used as a base to pack together and distribute all the hampers. Ideally, it would be great if this venue has car access, so cars could be loaded up with the food hampers all ready to go to people’s homes.

If anyone has a building, vacant shop, or storage facility free, the church would be very grateful as they seek to support people in difficult circumstances during this upcoming Christmas Season.

The church would be very grateful for anyone who could support this important initiative. Kind offers of help are asked to get in touch with project coordinator Jason Ham at Jason.ham@rediscoverchurch.com and he’d love to discuss this further with you.
