Dog found injured on A38 may have escaped from home

Police investigating how a dog came to be found injured on the A38 near Exeter say they believe it may have escaped from its home.

Officers received reports that the dog had been thrown from a vehicle near Kennford services on Thursday afternoon.

The black King Charles Spaniel was found with broken legs. It is now thought the sustained its injuries by running across the road.

Police will now review CCTV to see if any light can be shed on how the dog got onto the road.

In a statement Devon & Cornwall Police said: “As stated in the initial appeal, it was a third hand report of the dog being thrown from the car, which is why we appealed for witnesses.

“We are currently working under the impression that the dog had escaped from its home and ran across the road and sustained its injuries this way.

“The dog is currently still receiving treatment at the vets and its owners have been located and made aware. We will update the public once all enquiries have been completed.

“We would like to thank the public for their help with this matter and for the concern shown. Anyone with information that can help police is asked to contact 101 quoting log number 397 for the 1st of September.”
