Mother’s Day is all about making mums feel special and loved, which is why East Devon District Council’s Countryside team has come up with the terrific idea of combining a visit to one of the district’s top nature attractions, Seaton Wetlands, with a delicious cream tea.

Just bring your mum to the Seaton Wetlands Discovery Hut on Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 March from 10am to 4pm and enjoy a cream tea for just £3 per person on a first come first served basis. There’s no need to book, just turn up.

Councillor Tom Wright, East Devon’s portfolio holder for the environment believes it’s an excellent way to connect with nature; “Our Mother’s Day treat at Seaton Wetlands is a lovely way for families to spend time together. It’s a chance to connect with nature and enjoy a few hours of peace and tranquillity, exploring the nature reserve before enjoying a delicious cream tea.’’

In addition to the cream teas, all visitors will have the chance to learn more about Seaton Wetlands from the fantastic volunteers who run the Discovery Hut each weekend and to meet the site’s resident harvest mouse. The Discovery Hut is accessible via wheelchair and pushchair.

Other refreshments can be purchased for a donation towards Seaton Wetlands. Please note there are no card payment facilities.

For any mums feeling extra energetic, there is the chance to welcome in the day with the dawn chorus walk at 6am on Saturday 10 March. Countryside ranger, James Chubb will lead the Dawn chorus walk in the beautiful Holyford woods. Spaces are £4 each and must be booked in advance.

The Countryside team run exciting events throughout the year for all ages to enjoy. Upcoming events can be viewed online at wildeastdevon.co.uk. For further information the Countryside team can be contacted via email: countryside@eastdevon.gov.uk or by calling: 01395 517557.
