Consultation on Kenton traffic experiment

Residents in Kenton are being asked for their views on an on-going traffic experiment in the village.

Devon County Council has launched an online public consultation to gauge opinion on two alternative road layouts which are being trialled on the A379 through South Town at Kenton.

Following long-running concern over the narrow section of the A379 through the village, an experiment started in February to improve safety for pedestrians on the narrow pavements and also to reduce the number of buildings struck by vehicles.

Traffic signals were initially introduced for two weeks. They were then replaced by a priority narrowing system controlled by signs and lines alone, which, if introduced would enable a footway to be provided on the south side of the road and widening of the footway on the northern side of the road.

Assessments are being carried out on the effects of both schemes, with speed surveys and traffic volumes monitored on the A379 and surrounding roads which might be affected by the changes.

People are now being asked to consider the effects of the layouts and provide feedback at www.devon.gov.uk/kenton-southtown

The results of the consultation, which closes on Tuesday 30 April, will be used to help inform Devon County Council’s decision on what to do next.
