Care home celebrates superstar residents

Staff and residents at Cumberland Grange Care Home in Exeter are celebrating because two of the homes much-loved characters, Avril Tucker and Brian Edwards, have been elected as Resident Ambassadors, a role they are extremely proud of and one they do very well. With their kindness and support to new and existing residents, no one at Cumberland Grange could think of better people to represent them.

Originally from London and living in another care home at the time, Avril moved down to Cumberland Grange in August 2022 to be closer to her sister-in-law. She said: ‘I arrived here and felt very lucky to call this my new home. Avril runs our weekly group ‘Busy Lizzie Ladies’ which takes place every Wednesday morning. The group is perfect for those who love to have a chat, a cup of tea or coffee and some fresh pastries.

Brian, who has been at Cumberland Grange since April 2022, also moved down to Exeter to be closer to family and at the time, his wonderful wife Marion lived with us. From the very first day that Brian joined us, it was clear just how much he cared for everyone around him. Brian takes pride in speaking with prospective residents and family members when they visit, and looks out for new residents when they join us.

Bethanie Cheffings, General Manger at Cumberland Grange Care Home, said: “We are all incredibly proud of Avril and Brian. They are fantastic Resident Ambassadors and a huge support to everyone around them. They have made many friends here at Cumberland and we are very grateful for all the kindness and compassion they show to prospective, new and existing residents. We have such an amazing home, and it is all down to the people within.”
