Hundreds of motoring enthusiasts and families alike enjoyed The Donkey Sanctuary’s annual car show on Sunday despite torrential downpours.

An eclectic mix of motors included impressive line ups of Subaru Imprezas, Minis, Ford RS’s, Volkswagen campers plus a whole host of classic cars.

Visitors took the rain in their stride and sought the shelter of the gazebos to listen to the live music. Youngsters revelled in getting behind the wheel of the go-karts while a host of side-shows kept everyone entertained.

Organisers presented some fun exhibitor awards in a variety of categories with the marshall’s special prize going to a spectacular hand built car in the style of a 1930’s racing car named the ‘Bullet’.

John Crouch, visitor engagement manager at The Donkey Sanctuary says: “We had around 600 cars, our biggest show yet. It was a bumper turn out of classic cars and everything in between from Bond Bugs and Austin A30s to Porsche 911s and Toyota Supras.”

John continues: “The Marshall prize went to The Bullet an impressive home built beauty costing £3,000 to build but now worth well over 10 times as much. Despite rain of biblical proportions fun was had by all and the show was a great success.”

The Donkey Sanctuary was open as usual and many show goers took the opportunity to meet some of the resident donkeys and explore the new visitor attractions.

All proceeds from the Car Show will help fund the work of The Donkey Sanctuary worldwide.
