Walking for Health and ROC Active Exeter have joined forces to make the most of the secret green footpaths of Exeter to provide a fun, FREE walking group, which is open for all to enjoy.

ROCs new health walk group has been a great success so far. Last week, as the sun shone, some walkers stopped at the park for games whilst others carried on further, taking in some hidden paths and exploring the wonderful nature along the canal right by Exeter's City Centre.

All ROCs Walking for Health walks are open to everyone and provide a fun chance to work up to your 150 minutes of recommended physical activity per week - and a great social activity too. All walks are free to attend and no specialist equipment is needed.

The ROC health walk is part of the national Walking for Health programme, which is England’s largest network of health walk schemes, helping people across the country lead a more active lifestyle. In Devon the programme is supported and managed by Active Devon and partners.

Hannah Colston Senior Development Manager at Active Devon said: "Our mission at Active Devon is supporting everyone in Devon to be active for life. The Walking for Health programme is supporting over 2,000 people to become regularly active and it all contributes towards the all important 150 minutes a week. The ROC active walk is another fantastic opportunity for people who are new to getting active, to be involved in an easy going, social and free weekly activity."

ROC support individuals with learning disabilities and offer a range of inclusive activities. Coordinator Keiran Laureston says; ‘linking with Walking for Health has helped to empower the people we support to integrate with the community and follows ROCs core values to improve fitness, health and well-being.’ If you would like to know more about ROCs work visit www.roc-uk.org

ROC will be walking every Wednesday and it’s easy to join in. Come along at 2pm, meeting at the Riverside Leisure Centre café, EX4 1AF.

There will be a walk option suitable for wheelchairs, pushchairs and those with limited mobility and a longer option for those who would like to walk further (walking time up to 75 minutes). The group will finish at 3.30pm back at the café of the Riverside for a well-deserved drink and a chat.
