Care home doors will be swung open next week as Devon County Council homes join in with National Care Home Open Day.

On Friday 21 June, homes across Devon will be holding special events and inviting the public to join them. These include tea dances, pamper days, cream teas, live music, craft activities, gardening, cooking, a dog show and pet therapy.

Many of the homes’ residents have been involved in the planning and organisation of their events.

The national day has been organised to encourage communities to go in to their local care home and connect with residents and staff and to increase public awareness and understanding of what care homes do.

Councillor Stuart Barker, Cabinet Member responsible for the County Council owned homes said: “Our care homes care for hundreds of people every day, and I would urge everyone to go along and take part in this unique opportunity to see inside the homes, meet the interesting residents and committed staff, and participate in the activities planned.”
