Celebration of clinical research at RD&E

Members of the public are invited to an exhibition of clinical research currently being undertaken by clinicians at the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust, the leading research hospital in the South West Peninsula.

The event takes place on 5th November from 11.30am-1pm in the Research Innovation, Learning and Development (RILD) building on the hospital’s Wonford site. It will include a chance to view presentations on the exciting developments in clinical care currently being investigated by RD&E teams and an opportunity to meet with clinicians to discuss their work.

Examples of the research work that will be exhibited will include:

The use of animation videos to improve the way patients are given information about planned surgery such as an elective caesarean section.
A novel technique for treating patients with abnormal fast heart rhythm in the Emergency Department (ED).
Investigating the benefits of dietary supplementation with nitrate enriched beetroot juice in cancer related anaemic patients.
Use of physiotherapy to improve quality of life with patients suffering with abnormal hip joints.
Examining Advance Care Planning: Perspectives of people living with Parkinson’s Disease.

Guests will also have the chance to contribute to the future of healthcare research by signing up to the Exeter 10,000 project and registering for further opportunities to get involved.

Chris Gardner, Research and Development Manager at the RD&E, said: “Clinical research is at the very heart of the NHS as it helps us to improve treatment options for patients. We would warmly welcome members of the public to come along and find out more about the important research that is being undertaken here in Devon.”

“We will be showcasing some of the exciting innovations in clinical care being developed within the Trust, many of which have been published in prestigious medical journals and gone on to inform changes to clinical practice.”

There is no need to register to attend the event, however please note, there is limited car parking on the hospital site, so visitors may want to consider car sharing, use of the Digby Park & Ride service (PR3) or the bus service (H) from town.
