Following Boris Johnson’s announcement of the roadmap for lifting lockdown, Devon tourism and events businesses are breathing a sigh of relief and already seeing a positive uplift in enquiries and revenue that will help them to recover from a difficult Winter.

With international travel looking to be off the cards this Summer, many Brits are dreaming of staycations and looking for out of the ordinary experiences in the UK. Devon is expected to benefit from this, with locals and visitors alike making the most of everything the South West has to offer and injecting lost tourism revenue back into the area.

This August Bank Holiday will see the very first Gone Wild Festival with Bear Grylls taking place at Powderham Castle, near Exeter. Following the Prime Minister’s announcement, this week Gone Wild Festival has seen a 200% increase in ticket sales in just a couple of days. With many other festivals and events being cancelled around them, the team have weathered the storm, determined that the event will go ahead. With the news that all social distancing and limits on numbers of event attendees are due to end in June, their positive outlook is paying off.

From the point that the festival was first announced back in October 2020 the response from the public has been brilliant, with strong ticket sales and a steady flow of positive comments on social media. Families are excited to have something to look forward to that offers escapism, amazing entertainment and once in a lifetime experiences. Since the COVID roadmap announcement visitors to the Gone Wild Festival website have increased by 195%.

Bear Grylls said: "After the government’s announcement, we are good to go! Gone Wild really is the light at the end of the tunnel for so many people.

I’d like to say a massive thank you to the Royal Marines Charity, who have worked tirelessly to support so many families during this pandemic, but who have had their fundraising income slashed to almost nothing. It’s been tough for so many. But tough times are also times of opportunity, so I'd love you to join me at the Gone Wild Festival, where 10% of all the ticket money goes directly to support those who need it most."

Visitors to the festival are expecting it to be the highlight of 2021, with the chance to see bands such as Kaiser Chiefs and Razorlight, visit a pop-up restaurant from local foodies and go off-roading on quad bikes with Devon Leisure. There will be a packed schedule that offers good times in the great outdoors, including Be Military Fit family workouts, a Royal Marines obstacle course, Stand Up Paddleboarding, bushcraft skills, a spa experience and lots more.
