Sight loss charity launches Iceland Trek

Exeter residents can find out how they can kick start their New Year’s resolutions by attending a launch event for a brand new five day trek across Iceland to raise money for the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB).

The Trek, which will be taking place in October 2016, will be raising vital funds for RNIB and will provide a once in a lifetime opportunity to revel in the beautiful landscape that Iceland has to offer.

Two million people are living with sight loss in the UK and every 15 minutes someone is told they are losing their sight. All funds raised by the Iceland Trek will help RNIB reach as many people as possible through a range of practical and emotional support services.

The local launch event will be held at 6.30pm on Tuesday 2nd February at The Forum, Exeter University to give anyone who might be interested in taking part all the information they need before signing up. The session will include a guest speaker who will be able to give a first - hand experience of taking part in a similar challenge, as well as hints and tips of how to reach fundraising targets.

Yvonne Harvey, Events Manager at RNIB, said: “To trek through Iceland will be a fantastic experience for all those involved. It really is a once in a lifetime opportunity to do something wonderful to raise money for RNIB, as well as taking on a massive personal challenge
“There is no better way to experience the outdoors than to embark on the trip of a lifetime as well as raise money for RNIB to continue providing emotional and practical support to people living with sight loss in the UK.
