Local homebuilder Barratt David Wilson Homes Exeter has recently donated £1,500 to Balloons, a small, local charity working across Exeter, East and Mid Devon, as part of the developers community fund initiative.

The Barratt Developments community fund initiative looks to support those causes which have a positive impact within their local communities. Balloons, set up in 2007 is dedicated to providing essential bereavement and support services to children and young people aged five-25, when someone significant in their lives dies. For many children this is their first experience of bereavement, and it can be a very difficult time for those children and their families.

Balloons has a dedicated network of volunteers and trained staff who provide over 150 children and young people with one-to-one grief support sessions for pre and post bereavement and reach many more through their telephone support to parents, carers and schools, sending care packages and delivering training to professionals.

Nicola Clarke, Chief Executive Officer at Balloons, said: “We are a small charity and demand for our service is high. Funding is critical to enable us to continue to support children and families in the area and we are grateful for Barratt David Wilson Homes recent donation. The money has been put towards running and resourcing one-to-one sessions and covering expenses of our volunteers to travel to sessions. We are always looking for more supporters and volunteers to train to become grief support workers and are touched by the goodwill of our doners.”

Nicki Reid, sales director for Barratt David Wilson Homes Exeter, said, “Community is at the heart of our developments and we are delighted to support Balloons, a small local charity that works incredibly hard to provide critical support for children, young people and their families. We are warmed that this donation is going towards such a valuable and necessary cause.”
