Since its inception in January 2015 the Exeter Dementia Action Alliance (EDAA) have been working tirelessly to inspire local businesses and organisations to consider their service provision for people living with dementia and their care partners in the city.

Part of a growing national movement the EDAA - while independent - has been trailblazing work towards a Dementia Friendly city.

Euan Imrie, Chief Operating Officer for the Charities Trust says  “we are delighted to be working alongside the alliance as they progress with their vision. Our role will be to provide administrative and governance support leaving the alliance to focus on the valuable work they do”.

Barrie who has  lived with mixed dementia for 5 years says “My wife Sara and I have been involved with the alliance for the past couple of years and are very proud to be part of their work. Where possible we attend events with them  which allows us to share with others what it is like for us living daily with dementia and the support we may need to live well. Sara is wonderful and keeps me going when at times I don’t feel like it. Having the opportunity to speak feels so important. In turn we hope this will empower others to speak out too."

Sara adds “We are pleased to hear that EDAA is now part of the Charities Trust, which will allow Gina, Colin and others involved to concentrate their considerable efforts in raising awareness of how the difficulties of living with dementia can be helped by the support of businesses in Exeter. The practical role of educating staff and businesses in Exeter to become more dementia aware and friendly is vital."

Exeter City Council have been instrumental in supporting the alliance and said “We are delighted to have been able to support EDAA with their city wide work and look forward to continuing to work alongside them”.

Thanks to Cartridges Law for their support through the legal  process alongside being one of the earliest members. Karyna Squibb and the Partners have assisted this process and the Alliance is extremely grateful for their invaluable support.

Gina Awad, leads the EDAA and says “to all of our members we wholeheartedly thank you for your spirit, desire to understand and learn more about dementia in addition to your contributions by taking action in the community”.
