The British summer is something that is temperamental at the best of times, but there is nothing that stops people from welcoming the balmy weather from the moment the temperatures start to rise. It is a time when family and friends can come together to enjoy the sun after the cold nights of winter, but your home might not be ready to start hosting after such a dreary and long winter. Your garden might not be looking fresh and green, or you may not have done your spring clean yet. Fortunately, there are a few small tips you can follow which will get your house looking and feeling summer ready.

Freshen up your garden

In summer, your garden is where you will be spending most of your time, whether that be to relax with a book on summer evenings or to host gatherings for your friends. In any case, your garden must be cleared to make way for such guests. If you aren’t into gardening, then it’s wise to clean your paths and patio so it looks more refined; you can always hire a professional to do this. However, if you do have green fingers, then make sure you clip back all the straggling ends of your plants, and perhaps plant new, bright flowers which will blossom in time for summer.

Invest in a good barbeque

Summer isn’t the same without having the smell of barbeque food drifting in the air, and without having somewhere to cook all your summer food. For the coming summer and the years ahead, make sure your barbeque will stand the test of time. If it is looking like it is on its last legs, then it is time to invest in a new one. This may seem like a big purchase in the short term, but you will be able to enjoy all of the amazing food you can produce, and have guests over often to show off our cooking skills.

Purchase summer goods

Preparing your home doesn’t just mean pulling out all the stops for your garden. In fact, there are some small token items that act as great finishing touches to any summer. For example, stocking up on ice lolly trays for you to make your own ice pops, and buying some unique drinking glasses such as the ones from Jules Creations can create an elegant affair. Not only are these perfect for hosting drinks, or enjoying a drink on a night in, but they also make perfect gifts for summer weddings.

Do a big spring clean

Once you have bought all your finishing touches, your home will be able to function properly in summer, but that can’t happen until you have a big clean up of your house. In summer, you won’t need jumpers scattered over sofas and heavy boots littering the hallway. As a start to preparing your home, make sure you have one day before it gets too warm where you have a thorough spring clean. This will make it much easier for you to do short cleaning sprees every few days, making your home look inviting for you and your guests.
