New homes in Exeter are attracting a whole host of new residents - and some are quite literally winging their way to the brand new community.

David Wilson Homes is pledging its support to British wildlife by making its Harts Meadow development bee-friendly. It is planting a range of plants and shrubs in gardens and landscaped areas, specifically designed to create a buzz among the area’s honey bees.

And homebuyers at the development will be offered seeds when they move in, so they can plant more tempting foliage to encourage the important insects.

Official figures show the country’s population is in decline, and this is partly due to the lack of flowering plants, trees and shrubs that feed them.

“We are very aware of the need to create welcoming environments - not only for homebuyers within our new developments but also for the wildlife, which is crucial if the planet’s ecosystem is to thrive,” said sales director, Sara Parker.

“Bees play a hugely significant role in this - and we are delighted to be playing our own small part in helping them flourish.”

Harts Meadow can be found in Monkerton, a small hamlet in the village of Pinhoe, Exeter. A range of three, four and five bedroom homes are on offer here from the five star housebuilder.
