1. Alter The Door Mounting

Before you start thinking about the tiles, wall colors, and furniture in your bathroom; stop and first determine if changing the door fitting is an option for creating more space. For instance, pocket or sliding doors can be installed to create extra floor space in the area that would normally be occupied when a door on traditional hinges is opened. Buy bathroom door locks here.

If sliding doors are not an option, is it practical to make it so that the door opens outwards as opposed to into the bathroom? While the concept may seem a little strange at first, if space is super tight, it can be a quirky way to create space. When the door is not swinging into the room, you have the option of exploring more opportunities for maximising space.

2. What About A Corner Sink?

Corner vanity sinks can be an excellent way to free up some floor space in the bathroom to allow for the installation of a shower unit or bigger bathtub. Nowadays there is a wide range of corner sinks to choose from including many traditional-style compact units. You might be surprised at how stylish some of the units available are.

3. Choose A Floating Vanity

A floating vanity allows for more floor space underneath for smaller storage units. It can make a room feel a bit bigger. Floor standing vanities often dominate the floor space in a small bathroom leading to the room feeling very cramped. A floating design meanwhile can make the compact space feel slightly more spacious.

There are fortunately lots of stunning floating vanities in the marketplace and many are very competitively priced.

4. Install Recessed Wall Shelves

If your bathroom is lacking any storage space and creating a big issue, recessed wall shelves can provide the perfect solution to your woes. Unfortunately, not all walls are designed for inset shelves. However, the walls in your bathroom are suitable for recessed shelves, you can enjoy some extra storage space as well as create great visual features.

Inset shelves are available in a range of finishes and you can typically find designs that match the existing decor in your bathroom. The shelves are perfect for displaying soaps and ornaments.

5. Limit Wall Fixtures To One Wall

Many homeowners makes the mistake of installing bathroom wall fixtures on opposing walls. Doing so results in a "maze effect" and ensures your bathroom is harder to move around in as you have to navigate multiple protruding units. Placing all of the wall fixtures on the same wall will create floor zones that feel more spacious.

6. Opt For A Combined Vanity & WC Unit

There are now many integrated units available that combine a vanity sink and toilet into a single unit. They come in a range of sizes and are ideal for small bathrooms. What's more, they also tend to be faster to install and can even work out cheaper than buying a separate vanity unit and toilet.

7. Install Any Rails Or Hooks On The Door

The door is a great place for towel hooks and rails. You can even find overdoor towel rails for sale that don't require any permanent fixtures. This is fast space saving option.

8. Buy Large Mirrors

These days just about everyone knows that large mirrors can give the illusion of more space by reflecting more light around the room. A great place for a large mirror is above the sink and vanity unit. Bigger mirrors with built in lights are an even better option for bathrooms that are compact.

9. Use Light Colors On The Walls

When it comes to painting your bathroom, stick to light colors and large scale patterns. Wallpaper with busy patterns is best avoided when looking to make a room feel more spacious. The same applies to wall tiles -- ideally you should use plain white super-reflective wall tiles.
