Take advantage of free parking on the five Saturdays running up to Christmas.

Mid Devon District Council is giving free car parking at selected car parks in Tiverton, Cullompton and Crediton on the five Saturdays before Christmas.

The locations are the long–stay car parks at:

• Tiverton – Multi-storey, Phoenix Lane • Cullompton – Station Road • Crediton – St Saviours Way, High Street

The dates of the free parking are:

• Saturday 23 November • Saturday 30 November • Saturday 7 December • Saturday 14 December • Saturday 21 December

South Dartmoor students perform soundtrack for new Dartmoor film

Three Devon students have recorded a unique piece of music to accompany a new film about Dartmoor National Park.

The collaboration for this original work was between National Park Authority member of staff Sarah Oxton, South Dartmoor Community College students and Head of Music at South Dartmoor, Rachel Lewis.

The composition, conducted by Rachel Lewis, features Howard Ellacott (17) from Buckfastleigh, on flute, Stan Carrodus (17) from Ashburton, on piano and Esther Beyer (16) from Liverton, on the harp.

The piece was recorded at The Music Mill in Newton Abbot....

Seaside resorts benefit from free Sunday parking

Teignmouth and Dawlish have joined the rest of Teignbridge car parks in being free on Sundays.

Teignbridge-owned car parks in the two seaside resorts have re-joined the successful scheme which sees all 35 of the council's car parks free of any charges on a Sunday.

The free parking scheme is aimed at boosting local trade and cutting costs to motorists.

Sundays are free of charge throughout the year for all urban and rural parts of the district. Charges apply through the summer months in Teignmouth and Dawlish.

Exeter Airport passenger numbers exceed expectations this summer

Exeter Airport can reflect on a busy summer of 2013 where passenger numbers from May until October exceeded expectations and were over forty thousand up on the same period in 2012. The overall inbound and outbound passengers for the five months totalled 415,618, an increase of 11%. First Great Western cleaners in second walkout over pay

Cleaners on First Great Western (FGW) trains are embarking on their second 24-hour strike today (Friday 25 October) over pay and contracts.

Members of the RMT union working for sub-contractors MITIE on First Great Western are walking out in a dispute over a 2% pay offer and zero hours contracts.

In a statement, the union described the action as a "fight for a living wage and workplace justice as it emerged that the company chief presiding over the culture of low pay and zero hours contracts has raked in £1.37 million."

Jobseekers get a welcome boost as Stagecoach makes discounted bus travel scheme permanent

Stagecoach, one of the UK’s biggest bus operators, has confirmed it is making permanent its ground-breaking discounted bus travel scheme for jobseekers.

The company launched the country’s first long-term nationwide initiative as a six-month pilot in February 2013, giving thousands of jobseekers across the UK a 50% discount on their bus travel to help them find employment.

New figures show jobseekers are making nearly 20,000 discounted bus journeys a month under the scheme, which is funded entirely on a commercial basis by Stagecoach without any public sector support....
