With the weather getting progressively cooler, winter has started to creep into our lives. Winter weather can be divisive – some people love it and others cannot stand it.

For people who aren’t fans of cold weather, you may start to think about taking a break to a warmer climate. To make your holiday a luxurious experience that is slightly different, look into getting a cruise from Southampton.

With plenty of beautiful countries to choose from, why not look at Europe and its many stunning cities? Here are some you should consider visiting.

Malaga, Spain

If you are looking for a bit of winter sun then Malaga could be the place for you as temperatures still reach between 18 and 20 degrees in December. As it is outside the summer months, there will be fewer tourists so it can be a quieter experience.

One of the most popular tourist attractions is the Alcazaba which is an 11th-century fortress left over from the Muslim rulers. Alongside the incredibly preserved architecture, you will get a great view across the sea as it is perched on a hill.

Valletta, Malta

Visiting Valletta will transport you to another world. This beautiful city is like a scene from a movie twinned with glorious sunshine in the winter.

The capital of Malta, Valletta has been crowned a UNESCO World Heritage site thanks to its 320 monuments in such a concentrated area. If you are a history-lover then you will be immersed in thousands of years’ worth.

Lisbon, Portugal

Like Rome, Lisbon was founded on seven hills and is one of the best destinations for winter sun and exploration.

If you are planning to visit in November or December, Lisbon can be a haven for pre-Christmas shopping – just remember to leave space in your suitcase to bring it all home!

Beach lovers will love visiting the first World Surfing Reserve in Europe, Ericeira. Comprising seven different surf sports, Ericeria has been recognised for its wave quality and unique environment.

Limassol, Cyprus

Cyprus may not be one of the first places that springs to mind when thinking of a holiday, but Limassol may convert you into a repeat visitor. Limassol is the perfect mixture of modern areas and a stunning old town.

Located on the eastern side of the Mediterranean Sea, Limassol is one of the warmest places in Europe throughout the winter. If you are looking to soak up some sunshine whilst enjoying a delicious meal, head to Saripolou Square and Old Market. Here you will find local delicacies and thirst-quenching cocktails for you to enjoy as you soak in the lively atmosphere.

Travelling anywhere in the world can be a magical experience, but looking closer to home can work in your favour as well. Whether it is on a cruise or by plane, Europe has so much to offer in the darker winter months.
