Maintaining relationships is never easy. It requires a lot of patience and commitment to foster and nurture a healthy relationship with your significant other. That’s why when you two meet, it’s important to make the moment count — and what better way than to spend this precious time together doing meaningful and memorable things that are unorthodox but in the best way possible? The stereotypical ideas of movie dates or candle-lit dinners have long been drawn out and overplayed by popular culture and media over the years; so why not try these more unique experiences for your dates instead?

  1. Heard of a Bar Crawl? How about a Street Food Crawl in Mexico City?

If you’re a huge foodie or a lover of the arts; or both, Mexico City will be straight up your alley. Choose to venture through the streets of quaint neighborhoods like Centro Historico or the artsy Roma Norte. Along the way, you’ll encounter many humble street food vendors selling nothing but the best Mexican traditional dishes ranging from tacos to tlayudas and sopes. Once you’ve had your fill, you can pop by one of the bars in Condesa to cool off with a refreshing glass of their signature mezcal cocktail or even a beer. Last but not least, you and your partner can hit the hay and call it a night at a cozy hostel in town.

  1. Roadtripping through the Irish Landscape

There’s this unspoken rule that road trips shouldn’t last longer than a night, but these people have clearly not tried making an epic road trip across Ireland. While Ireland isn’t the go-to destination that people think of for road trips, its beauty is definitely heavily underestimated; so what better way to explore what Ireland has to offer than through a week-long road trip?

Tucked away in the Irish countrysides are tiny and unassuming villages filled with a quaint charm that’ll be sure to melt your heart. Filled with bustling pubs, historical landmarks and national parks (like the Burren or Connemara), each village has its own unique history that’s often overshadowed by Ireland’s larger cities. Make use of this opportunity to properly unwind, relax and enjoy a slower pace of life that’s hard to come by these days. Finally, wind down after a long day of exploring at one of the local taverns in town. With that being said, a tip for planning your epic Irish road trip would be to use the hostels in Ireland as a guide. With over a hundred hostels in Ireland alone, there’ll always be lodging for you every step of the way.

  1. Picnic and a Tel Aviv Sunset? Sign me up!

It’s a pity that Tel Aviv is highly underrated. Nestled between Europe and Asia, it’s heralded to be one of the most populous (and romantic) metropolitans in Israel. Get ready to be impressed by its beautiful cityscape topped with a beach horizon that sets ablaze every evening at sunset. If all your traveling has burnt a hole in your wallet, fret not for you can still make an exceptional date night happen by enjoying a romantic picnic munching on some of Tel Aviv’s local delicacies. For example, the falafel is a popular Middle-Eastern cuisine that’s essentially fried and fragrant chickpea balls eaten in either a pita or a lafa. When paired with a nice bottle of Israeli wine or beer, you’re pretty much guaranteed a satisfying meal.

Lastly, end your romantic picnic date by basking in the glorious Tel Aviv sunset while sitting along the city’s coastline with the sounds of enthusiastic Israeli beachgoers playing matkot. Alternatively, you can people-watch fellow passers-by enjoying a peaceful evening as well. At the beach, you can get the best of both worlds — the social and lively vibes of people having fun together as well as a quiet moment with your loved ones as the sunsets.

  1. Experience a live music show in the hipster Kalamaja neighborhood of Tallinn, Estonia

Where do we even begin with Tallinn, the capital of Estonia? Known for its chill yet historical center, Tallinn boasts a homely feel to all who visit it. Yet, it has a pretty impressive nightlife scene to boot. If you and your significant other are big fans of live music performances, Kalamanja is absolutely the date night spot for you.

As a developing neighborhood with a flair for all things hipster, it attracts a collective of indie, local bands and all the crowds who flock to them; both fellow locals and tourists alike. Moreover, you wouldn’t have to worry about forking out an exorbitant amount of cash when you visit these live bands; allowing you to enjoy a night out of good music and dancing for cheap. If you want to find out more about the musical lineups for the night, simply ask any of the local shop-owners in the area and they’ll be able to bring you up to speed.

  1. A picturesque kayak date in Lithuania

If you often feel like a fish out of water on land and feel much more at home at lakes and oceans, you’ll be excited to hear about this date idea. Just outside Vilnius, Lithuania is the castle island of Trakai that can be visited by renting kayaks. This destination spot is even a popular place of interest for locals to visit for a day-trip or over the weekend. As you sit in your kayak bobbling peacefully out on the lake, soak up the warm rays of the sunset or try some of the local delights sold by vendors along the boardwalk. The scene definitely feels like a picture straight out of a fairytale.

Once you’re done for the day, head over to the pastel-themed Vilnius town center for a restful night in hostels like the Jimmy Jumps Hostel that’s famous for its excellent location (filled with many fun activities nearby) and impeccable service.

Conclusion

This list is not exhaustive by any means and there are still so many more exciting places to cover that’s appropriate for your not-so-typical date. However, I think the biggest takeaway from this is that there’s no standard mold for what makes a perfect date. The perfect date is up to you and your partner to decide for yourselves because ultimately, what’s most important during dates are what suits both of your tastes and each other’s company. So take these ideas as fun suggestions or inspirations for upcoming dates and run with it! Even if you’re currently single, you don’t have to toss these amazing ideas out of your mind just yet; after all, you just need to search for a good place to find a date to make all your dream getaways come true!
