The beloved city of Exeter might not be as popularly mentioned as London or Manchester when it comes to world renowned british cities, however it surely is a powerful underdog compared to the two. Exeter truly is a great travel destination for people of all ages, with numerous attractions, places to visit, and an intriguing history.

Being one of the oldest cities in England, the city of Exeter has plenty of historical remains and artifacts that date back up to two thousand years!

Did you know that Exeter has a divine food scene stemming from locally produced goods, originating from the South Western area of the city?

Or that there are seven other places around the world called Exeter, including towns in Pennsylvania, Illinois and Canada?.

There’s plenty of reasons why one should visit the city of Exeter, here’s a few that are amongst the most convincing, making almost anyone eager to give this place a visit to see what it’s all about!

The History

Starting off strong, we can’t forget to mention the amazing historical remains one can find within this ancient City. Firstly, there’s the City Wall Trail, which shows us the story of a wall that was built by the romans some two thousand years ago. The most incredible part is, after a couple thousand years, over 70% of the original wall still remains intact. Another amazing place to visit is the Exeter Cathedral, which was built in the middle of the eleventh century by the Ancient Romans.

Fun Fact: Exeter was the last place in the world where a female was trialed and executed for witchcraft!
