If you’re keen to get moving and up and about during your time off, then the UK has everything you need as long as you know where to look for it. There are hundreds, even thousands of places offering activity breaks all over the UK, so select from the best and the ones that most appeal to you. Before you leave, ask friends and family for recommendations and advice if you’re unfamiliar or unsure about what to expect from your activity break. It’s best to be prepared before you go so that you can pack appropriate clothing and take any essentials items such as a small first aid kit, for example. If you’re a real adrenaline junkie, then it might be wise to pack some painkillers alongside an old phone that you don’t mind losing or getting damaged.

Coastal Retreats

The summer is the best time to visit coastal towns and cities, as you can make the very most of walking and relaxing on the beach and seeing the British coastlines in all their glory. You’re spoilt for choice when deciding which seaside to visit as there are so many on the small island, and each has its own set of perks. Visit Coast Radar for more information of coastal places and what to do. Think seriously about what you want from a coastal break, as if you fancy getting your surfboard out to catch some waves, then you’re going to have most luck plumping for Cornwall or Devon to enjoy the choppier and more wild water there. Alternatively, if it’s white sands you’re after then West Wittering beach, Blackpool Sands, or Watergate Bay, Newquay are going to be your best options.

Walking and Hiking

Yes, you can walk and hike in places all over the UK, however not every trail was created equal. Some areas of the British Isles are truly stunning, and walking and hiking in them can make for an exhilarating and refreshing experience. Walking holidays aren’t always suitable for young children or older relatives, so think carefully about whether you’re going to go alone or with equally fit members of the family or a group of friends. Research commonly recommended areas, and try to steer your search towards looking at national parks and areas famed for their outstanding beauty such as The Cotswolds, Malvern Hills, and the South Downs Way, for example. If you’re planning a long day out walking, then be sure to take with you plenty of high calories snacks and a large bottle of water.

Cycling

Road cycling differs from town riding and taking your mountain bike out into the countryside to enjoy dirt tracks, for example. Decide which experience who wish to take part in and tally up the reasons for and against either road cycling, town riding, and mountain biking, as each mode delivers a different thrill. There are many tracks to take your mountain bike out to all over the UK, so consider looking further into the process of deciding by joining blogs, and Facebook groups to discuss options, for example. You can cycle your bike in most towns as long as it’s after hours and you cycle safely, so you have some scope with this option. Road biking is fast paced and amazing fun once you get going.
