77% of Exeter residents taken spontaneous trip away in last 6 months

According to a recent UK travel survey collated by Great Western Railway (GWR), the residents of Exeter are some of the most spontaneous travellers in the UK with 81% revealing that their ideal weekend would involve a trip away. Residents of Exeter are also keen explorers of the UK having visited 11 UK cities on average compared to the UK average of 10.

44% of Exeter residents treat the weekend as opportunity of discovery and adventure with 77% having taken a spontaneous, unplanned trip in the last 6 months. Residents of Exeter are also willing to spend over 3hrs travelling for a spontaneous weekend away and nearly 2hrs for a spontaneous day trip.

As well as using the weekends for discovery and adventure, nearly half (49%) of people from Exeter like to document their travels on Social Media choosing to share their adventures with friends and family via status updates and photography.

Ahead of English Tourism Week on 17th March 2018, Great Western Railway have relaunched their popular #GWRAdventures photo competition encouraging spontaneous Brits to explore the beautiful destinations that can be discovered along their network, including Exeter, this Spring.

Dan Panes, GWR’s Head of External Communications, said: “The weekends are a great opportunity to be spontaneous and as GWR serve some of the most beautiful destinations in the UK on their network, we want to celebrate English Tourism Week by encouraging everyone to discover the great locations that can be found on their doorsteps and to share them with friends and family with our #GWRAdventures competition.”

To enter the competition, simply take a photo of a location or destination in London, the South West or South Wales, served by GWR, and upload the image to Instagram or Twitter using the #GWRAdventures hashtag and tagging the location. All qualifying submissions will feature in a gallery and interactive photomap at: www.gwr.com/adventures

The competition will run from 12th March 2018 – 8th April 2018. GWR will pick a winner after each week and the winner will receive a pair of First Class return train tickets to take another adventure with GWR. There will be 4 weekly winners in total.

With over 9,500 services a week to beautiful destinations such as Bath, Bristol, Cardiff and Oxford, the four lucky winners will have the opportunity to embark on another adventure with GWR; exploring more photogenic destinations of the UK.
