M&S Opticians opens its doors in Exeter

Marks & Spencer has today, Thursday 17th February opened the newest branch of its M&S Opticians service, located in the retailer’s popular Exeter store.

M&S Exeter has become one of the first stores in the country to launch this new, expert opticians service, which includes a full eye health examination (OCT scan) for every eye test booked at no additional fee.

Two new research programmes are helping find new ways to support people with dementia who experience problems with sleep.

Across the world, around 55 million people have dementia. Up to 90 per cent of them experience problems sleeping.

Both too much and too little sleep are common, and can have significant impacts on health, leading to falls, or worsening existing symptoms and increasing death rates. Commonly used sleeping tablets can also be particularly harmful to people with dementia .

The NHS in Devon has announced the launch of a new health and wellbeing app library for local people, powered by the Organisation for the Review of Care and Health Apps (ORCHA).

Effectively a comparison website, the localised site for Devon allows patients and healthcare professionals to search and download from a wide range of apps, making it quicker and easier for people across Devon to access safe and accredited health and wellbeing applications on their computer or smart phone.

An innovative clinical trial will investigate how drinking beetroot juice impacts brain function in older adults, via the bacteria that live in our mouths.

Nearly one in five adults surveyed in the South West (17 per cent) who say their mental health got worse during the pandemic haven’t spoken to anyone about it during this time – equivalent to around 250,000 people – according to research published today. More than a third (38 per cent) of all respondents in the South West reported a worsening in their mental health during the pandemic.
