Princesshay will transform Princesshay Square into an interactive wellbeing space this May, bringing together local organisations for its annual Let’s Chalk About Mental Health event.

Taking place on Thursday 14th May from 11am–3pm, the event aims to highlight the importance of talking, sharing and listening to others.

Now in its fourth year, the event has grown to include a wide range of partners offering activities, guidance and opportunities for visitors to the centre. These include creative workshops, mindful crafts, movement sessions and interactive experiences...

Devon antibiotics campaign shortlisted for national award

A DEVON public health campaign that helps parents care for their children when they have minor illnesses like common coughs and colds, without the unnecessary use of antibiotics, has been shortlisted for a national award.

The Listen To Your Gut campaign, led by Devon County Council (DCC), the Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust (NDHT) and the Northern, Eastern and Western Devon Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), is a finalist in the inaugural Antibiotic Guardian Awards.

New members wanted for Exeter Cancer User Group

Anyone with experience of the RD&E’s cancer services is being invited to help boost public and patient membership of a joint group set up by the Trust.

The Trust has set up the Exeter Cancer User Group as part of its commitment to continuously improve its cancer services.

One of its key aims is to hear the views and experiences of both past and present cancer patients and their families/carers and in particular identify ways they feel the Trust can develop and strengthen its cancer services.

Improved care for Parkinson's patients at RD&E

A senior doctor has revealed how a campaign to improve the care of people with Parkinson’s at one of the UK’s largest hospitals has succeeded in delivering better treatment for patients.

Dr Sarah Jackson, a movement disorders consultant at the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital, initiated a campaign for change after an audit demonstrated the hospital could further improve care of its Parkinson’s patients.

Blood pressure difference linked to heart disease risk

Blood pressure differences between each arm can signal an increased risk of dying of heart disease, even in healthy people, a new large-scale study has found.

The University of Exeter Medical School has led an analysis of more than 3,000 people in Scotland who each had blood pressure measurements taken from both arms, published today in the British Journal of General Practice. Researchers say the findings show the importance of routinely measuring blood pressure in both arms.

Up to now, such research has mainly focussed on people who have already encountered heart disease...

Stuart Priscott is prepared to travel 200 miles to attend clinic appointments for a Cystic Fibrosis research study at a South West hospital.

The father of two, who was diagnosed with CF when he was a child, says: “I don’t view the time spent at the hospital for the research trial as time lost but very much as an investment in gaining more time if my quality of life is maintained for as long as possible. The respiratory team at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital marked World TB Day 2016 on the 24th March by raising awareness about one of the world’s most deadly infectious diseases.
