Everybody wants to have beautiful, radiant skin but unfortunately many people in this world suffer from bad skin, the sad reality is that people try many different products and methods but nothing seems to work. One of the problems is that people use these products but they don’t have a skincare routine, which is vital to help your skin stay healthy. Throughout the day you shed skin cells so it is important to keep your skin in tip top condition and maintain that glow! Another problem is that people will have a skincare routine but do many things incorrectly, so if you want to create a skincare routine for yourself, but have no idea where to start, here is a simple one that you can follow.

Exfoliate

The first thing on the list is to exfoliate. Exfoliating is good for the skin because it removes dead skin cells on the skin and strips away the outer layer making it easier for your skin care products to be absorbed into the skin. You need to be cautious though! Don’t over exfoliate your skin because most exfoliators have microbeads in them that can cause redness, irritation and dryness to your skin. Other exfoliators are chemical based and contain acids that also can cause irritation and redness to sensitive skin. It is recommended that you exfoliate 2-3 times a week for the best results.

Wash your face

You absolutely have to wash your face. There is no running away from this step. You should wash your face in the morning when you wake up and in the evening before you go to bed.  Washing your face will get rid of any dirt and impurities on your face  and will also prep your skin for the next skincare steps that you will need to take. This can also be done when showering or bathing and works well in conjunction with a good body wash, in fact Misumi have some fantastic products which are suitable for all skin types. Remember not to be too aggressive when drying your face - you should always take a clean towel and pat your skin gently dry.

Use moisturiser

After you wash your face you will need to moisturise. This needs to happen every single day twice a day. It is best to moisturize with sunscreen but this is not the only option. You need to choose a moisturizer based on your skin type. Do you have dry, oily or combination skin?  If your skin is dryer, you will need more nourishment so a cream moisturizer will work for you and if you have oily or combination skin then a lighter texture will be best for you so you should use a lotion moisturizer.

Use sunscreen

The sun is a major source of damage to the skin so it is important to use sunscreen every single day even if it is not sunny outside. SPF is an important part of your skincare routine so you want to use it every day and not just a moisturizer or a foundation that contains SPF. Failure to apple sunscreen will result in skin aging, wrinkling, sun damage and in extreme cases, skin cancer. Even if you are just planning to stay in the house, sunscreen is important. You need a minimum of SPF 30. You should apply a pea sized amount of sunscreen to your face.

General tips

Other useful things that you should consider adding your skincare routine are anti-aging products that helps you maintain healthy skin and prevent wear and tear that is a result of environmental aggressors. Retinol is a good anti-aging product. Apart from different products for your skin, you should also invest in a good, nutritious diet. Some foods that promote healthy skin include:

  • Mangoes
  • Tomatoes
  • Olive oil
  • Green tea
  • Kale
  • Omega-3
  • White tea
  • Soy

So there you have it. A simple skincare routine that anyone can follow. It might seems overwhelming and like a ton of admin but you need to dedicate yourself to a routine if you want to see your skin thriving. Remember, exfoliate, wash your face, use moisturizer, use sunscreen, use an anti- aging product and invest in your diet. If you follow these guidelines and are consistent, you will see your skin glowing in no time.
