Over the past few years, medical assisting has been emerging as one of the most rewarding careers in the healthcare industry. A medical assistant is a right-hand man or woman to an acting physician or nurse. Essentially, they help to make it easier for physicians and nurses while at the same time taking care of the patients. Medical assistants are entrusted with both administrative and clinical duties and helping patients whenever necessary. It’s a demanding job that involves a comprehensive set of responsibilities and duties. This means that they need to have a diverse skill set and they must also pay close attention to detail. Medical assistants are an integral part of a functioning medical practice.

To become a medical assistant, it’s important to exhibit high qualities of listening skills, compassion, and understanding. Considering that most of the work done by a medical assistant is hands-on, you need to be able to juggle between tasks. An integral part of a medical assistant’s day, usually involves interacting with patients. However, this has to be done professionally and respectfully. Needless to mention is the fact that you also need to be qualified to attend to the needs of the acting physician, nurse, and patients. Your qualifications will be put to the test when examining samples from patients, going through patient medical records, administering medication and immunizations, and other hands-on responsibilities. This having been said, let’s take a look at six reasons to become a certified MA (Medical Assistant).

1. It’s A Career Opener

The first reason to become a medical assistant is that it’s a gateway to your journey in the medical field. First and foremost, in itself, it’s a lifelong career. In any type of trade, a beginner needs to get their feet wet. And what better way than for an aspiring physician to start off in their career journey as a medical assistant? This could be the stepping stone to greater things in your career path. This having been said, it’s important to receive the training that goes with it. If you live in or would like to work in the US, for instance, there are so many schools offering medical assistant training programs, although the certification requirements may vary from one state to the other. In the Peach State, most employers would hire you with a post-secondary certification such as a 2-year associate's degree. Well, after acquiring deep knowledge in subjects like biology, anatomy, and chemistry, to become a medical assistant in GA, you’ll then need to pass a variety of state exams from renowned schools in the state. Passing these exams will help to increase your marketability as well as much-needed knowledge. One thing to note is that as the world’s population keeps increasing and with technological advances in the medical industry on the rise, the need for medical assistants will consistently remain in high demand. This is in tandem with ever-increasing medical concerns and creating a preventative approach in the healthcare industry.

2. You Can Work From Any Location

In our introduction, we briefly mentioned that medical assistant jobs are in high demand. There are thousands of clinics and hospitals across the country looking to hire experienced and well-trained medical assistants. So if you are considering starting afresh in a new location or maybe you have to move closer to your spouse, whatever your reasons, there are plenty of opportunities regardless of the location.

3. Fulfillment

Medical assistants have an important position. If you consider yourself a people person, there is no better way to find your fulfillment while helping people than being an MA. Having a career that is dedicated to helping people on a full-time basis will definitely provide you with unending pride. While on the same note, a medical assistant’s career provides you a platform through which you can hone your medical skills in helping others. You, of course, want your children to learn the importance of helping others. What better way than to show them through your career. In the long run, every day is a learning day. You’ll have the opportunity to interact with patients from all walks of life and while at it, you’ll get to learn the ins and outs of medical practices. Nothing beats the feeling you get from seeing patients receive the care they need and to see their needs met.

4. It’s A Stable Career

By now, it’s most likely that you’ve watched TV shows such as Grey’s Anatomy. It’s most probably that the TV show is not ending any day soon. This relates to the everyday need for surgeons, nurses, and, you guessed it right, medical assistants. While other professions are unsure of their fate in different fields, well, because their skills are slowly being replaced by technology, you can rest easy knowing that your abilities and skills will always be needed! According to a recent study, nearly 95% of the world’s population are experiencing some health problems while millions of people are dying from infectious diseases. This means that there will always be a need for a medical assistant. Let’s face it, even the healthiest of patients still go for routine medical checkups, right?

5. Great Salary

On average, a medical assistant, depending on the medical care facility and state, will make a much higher amount than the minimum wage. This is good news, especially considering the flexibility in working hours and the fact that you also have the option of working part-time. As you gain the right experience, there are higher chances that you can make more money.

6. Self-Improvement and Increased Self-Confidence

Building your self-confidence can be the difference between a successful career and a job you’re just “stuck in”. As a medical assistant, you have your aspirations of becoming the best physician. Working as a medical assistant will help to prepare you for greater things. It’s going to help in boosting your self-confidence and your people skills. These are key traits towards becoming the best physician or nurse. By completing the everyday tasks, you’re going to gain personal confidence, a sense of accomplishment, and gratification. At the end of the day, you’ll have the qualities that display you as a competent medical assistant.

Now, if the above reasons are not convincing enough, it’s most likely that a medical assistant career isn’t for you. But if you are interested in the medical field, then taking up the challenge of becoming a medical assistant can serve as a career opener and a stepping stone for greater things. But for the service of mankind and all that is good, taking up a career as an MA is a choice that you’ll never regret.
