Byron opens its doors in Exeter

Byron, the proper hamburger specialists, will open their first South West restaurant in Princesshay, Exeter on Friday (13 June).

The restaurant serves classic hamburgers, including a regularly-changing special, plus sides, salads and desserts, including vegetarian options, a children’s menu and takeaway.

Tom Byng, Byron’s founder, said: “We’re excited to be opening in Exeter in a great location right at the heart of the city, and I hope local fans of proper hamburgers feel the same.”

Disruption to Exeter Farmers’ Market

This week's Exeter Farmers’ Market is cancelled "due to unforeseen problems" (Thursday 12 June).

The disruption to the market is due to the extensive works being carried out on the pavement area at the junction of Fore Street and South Street in the city centre.

It was originally hoped that the market would only need to be cancelled for this week but unforeseen problems mean that the site will now be unavailable next week as well.

For the third year running, an increasing number of eateries have come together to organise their own special event or promotion in June for Devon Restaurant Month, to raise awareness of Devon's award-winning food.

Exeter business SunGift Solar has injected some sunshine into the Ottery St Mary Food and Families festival by stepping in as the headline sponsor.

The Royal Castle Hotel in Dartmouth is celebrating Devon Restaurant Month with an offer that’s hard to refuse; a three-course Devon Taster Menu for £40 per head and a hotel room for free. The only catch, other than the locally caught crab, is that you have to live in Devon to take up the offer, and if you want to stay in one of the highly sought-after river view rooms, there will be an extra charge of £20 per person.
