Preparation has started on the build for this year's Devon County Show on 16-18 May. A team of eight contractors are making the showground home for the next month as they build marquees equivalent in size to approximately four football pitches. The Exeter Community Centre Trust is launching its Past Present Future Project and is seeking volunteers.

Pirates commandeer Devon fishing port

Up to 2,000 pirates will be heading to the historic fishing port of Brixham on Devon’s English Riviera for the renowned Brixham Pirate Festival that attracts visitors from all over the world.

The Pirate Festival sees the whole of picturesque Brixham Harbour with its colourful cottages, spectacular marina, half-mile long breakwater and pretty beach gripped with Pirate Mania. The finance conscious Humphrey family from Silverton are in the running to be crowned Britain’s savviest, having been shortlisted in the annual money-saving advice competition, Nectar Savvy Family.

The family were selected, along with seven other finalists, from thousands of entrants, to keep a savvy blog for five weeks. Hundreds of local children and parents came along to the official re-opening of Elizabeth Road Play Park in Seaton on Saturday 6 April.

Mayor of Seaton Councillor Peter Burrows, who was heralded in magnificently by David Craner, Seaton Town Crier, cut the ribbon and declared the enhanced play area open and ready for fun.

Children in care would be found a home with adoptive parents more quickly under new plans to reform the adoption system.

In a joint submission to Government, councillors, chief executives and directors of children's services have set out proposals to significantly increase the number of adopters recruited and speed up the process of finding new homes for children in care.
