Out of the many holidays that happen during the year, summer is a favourite for many. It’s a time when you get six weeks with the kids before they head back to school and move onto bigger and better things. It’s also a period in which you have to think of activities you can do with your family so that everyone is happy and engaged. This isn’t an easy task, especially if you’ve got a million and one other things on your plate. Keep reading to see how you can spend quality time with your family and make sure it counts.

Invest in Quality Time

Just because it’s summer holiday, this doesn’t mean that you have to spend every waking moment with your family. What’s more important is that you improve the quality of the time that you’re spending together. You can do this by ensuring that every interaction you do have is memorable by being fully present. Make sure that you commit to certain days or activities with your family and cut off all distractions, especially your gadgets.

Consider Family Outings

Although you don’t have to go out all of the time, think about the places you could visit during the summer holidays. In case you need ideas, a few includes:

  • Picnic at the Park: Seeing as you should have more than a few warm days this summer, why not organise a picnic? This is a chance to get out of the house and have some fun in nature. You’ll also need to get your picnic basket ready and fill it with food and refreshments. Some picnic food ideas are egg & cress club sandwiches, vanilla cupcakes, or smoked salmon scotch eggs.
  • See a Show: Going to the theatre is another idea for family fun. There are family-friendly shows you could go and see or consider the cinema instead.  If you’re worried about going to an evening show with the kids, you can always use yougo.taxi on your way back home. This eliminates the need to drive home after a great night.
  • Museums: To keep your kids learning, why not go to a few museums? If you’ve already visited all of the ones in your area, then consider going to a neighbouring city and seeing what they have. Some of the most popular museums in the UK that are great for families include the National Football Museum in Manchester and the V & A Museum of Childhood in London.

Make Everyday Activities Fun

Aside from the mentioned, why not try making everyday activities fun? Things like cooking, cleaning and putting away laundry don’t have to be boring and repetitive tasks. Turn dinner time into a cooking class and take turns being the chef of the day. You could also turn tidying up into dancing competitions, so you’re burning energy and laughing too. Remember that the best memories are usually spur of the moment and unplanned.

Spending time with family is something most people cherish. Make this summer one of the most memorable by taking some of the above tips on board.
