Townson joins Chiefs coaching staff

Glen Townson has joined Exeter Chiefs as the men’s assistant forwards coach.

Formerly the academy transition coach with Bristol Bears, the former lock forward makes the move to Chiefs having been in his transition role with Bears since September 2022.

Townson said: “It has been a real ambition of mine to be a Gallagher PREM coach, and to get the chance to do it at the Chiefs, one of the most successful clubs in the last decade, a club with rich history, was an opportunity I had to take.

“I’m hoping to add experience to a strong coaching group and build on the...

Chiefs side to face Gloucester

Rob Baxter has called on his Exeter Chiefs side to show their 'fighting qualities' when they tackle rivals Gloucester tomorrow night in Round 13 of this season's Gallagher Premiership at Kingsholm (7:45pm).

Over a month has passed since the Chiefs last took to the field in top-flight action - that day they won 14-9 at home to Bristol Bears to maintain their position as the divisional frontrunner - and Director of Rugby Baxter has spoken of the excitement that exists within the camp ahead of this fourth meeting of the season against the Cherry & Whites.

So far, the...

Hill and Hepburn agree new deals at Chiefs

Rob Baxter will tell you that his retention plans often outweigh that of a huge recruitment drive, such is his desire to ensure that continuity runs smoothly for both him and his players at Exeter Chiefs.

Having already ensured a number of the club’s star names are locked down for the next few years, the Chiefs Director of Rugby has spoken of his delight after two more first-team stars pledged their immediate futures to the Gallagher Premiership club.

Forwards Alec Hepburn, 25, and Jonny Hill, 24, are the latest to put pen to paper, both agreeing terms on two-year contract...

Trio agree new deals at Exeter Chiefs

Rob Baxter’s forward-planning is gathering pace after the Exeter Chiefs Director of Rugby last night confirmed three more of his current squad have agreed new deals with the Gallagher Premiership club.

Long-serving back Phil Dollman, together with centre Ollie Devoto and winger Olly Woodburn, are the latest names to confirm they are extending their stays at Sandy Park.

Dollman – who is celebrating 10 years at the Chiefs this season – has put pen to paper on a new one-year deal, while Devoto and Woodburn have each signed two-year contracts.

The news comes just days...

Bristol Bears 10 Exeter Chiefs 12

When push came to shove, Exeter’s pack came together in unison to provide the power that has put them within touching distance of a semi-final place in this season’s Premiership Rugby Cup.

The Cup holders will have to wait at least a week to confirm whether they have advanced, but a third victory of the season against Bristol Bears has given them more than a fighting chance of advancing.

Only Newcastle Falcons - who face Sale Sharks next weekend in their final qualification fixture - can deny the Devonians, providing they pick up all five points and overturn a nine-point...

Chiefs and England trio agree new deals

Rob Baxter’s forward-thinking vision for Exeter Chiefs has tonight been boosted with the news that three of their highly-rated stars have all pledged their immediate futures to the club.

England internationals Luke Cowan-Dickie, Jack Nowell and Henry Slade have all put pen to paper on two-year deals that will keep them at Sandy Park until the end of the 2020/2021 season.

Having all come through the Devon club’s academy structure, the trio have since gone on to establish themselves as household names within the Chiefs ranks, each of them amassing over 100 first team...

Chiefs 34 Castres 12

Rob Baxter’s Exeter Chiefs will use this week to ready themselves for a straight shoot-out with one of European Rugby’s top guns, Munster, to see who will advance out of Pool Two in this season’s Heineken Champions Cup.

With their aspirations seriously faltering after three rounds of battle, Devon’s finest have recorded back-to-back, bonus point victories against Gloucester and Castres to give themselves a more than fighting chance.

Just four points separate leaders Munster and the Chiefs heading into the final round of action next weekend.

Thomond Park will be...

Hard fought battle sends Chiefs clear at the top of the Premiership

Exeter Chiefs toasted their first game of the New Year with victory, but this was hardly vintage stuff from Rob Baxter’s side in a contest that lacked any real fizz.

Devon’s finest extended their lead at the top of this season’s Gallagher Premiership by seeing off local rivals Bristol Bears in a contest that is unlikely to live long in the memory bank of the capacity crowd that packed into Sandy Park.

The Chiefs bounced back from their loss at Northampton Saints last time out to edge out their nearest and dearest for a second time this season.
