Free Cider and Summer Tunes Come to Devon with a Music Series from Thatchers Cider

Free pints, live music and summer vibes

Thatchers is set to delight music and cider fans heading into venues and pubs across the summer with a national 40+ gig series that will visit Devon throughout August.

A mix of Juicy Sounds DJ nights and Summer Sessions acoustic evenings will be held to celebrate what promises to be a summer filled, not just with sport, but with music too.

Events are currently planned for:

The Blue Ball in Exeter on Friday 7th August.
Boathouse, Dawlish, Saturday 8th August.

Animated Exeter events success

Despite the horrendous weather, most of the Animated Exeter events taking place in the city over the past couple of weeks went ahead.

The Valentine's Day weekend saw the culmination of the first week of Animated Exeter with a fabulous light show on Fore Street, directed by Tal Rosner. Unfortunately, the show had to be cancelled on the Friday night due to the storms, but Saturday's performance was absolutely beautiful, with Fore Street being transformed into an interactive cinema, and people flocking to see the spectacle.

Working in a local authority cemeteries department inspired Devon author Kate Vane’s new novel, Not the End.

Kate said, “The job made me think about our attitudes to death, particularly when someone died without friends and family and the local authority had to take charge of the funeral arrangements. Often they weren’t poor, or a loner, as people think. They had just outlived everyone who was close to them.”

Great movies for kids this half term

Escape the miserable weather into a wonderful alternative universe of animation this half-term.

Animated Exeter will be screening over 100 animated films from the UK’s young animators, UK graduates and stunning selection of independent talent from around the world in addition to screenings of big movies: from Studio Ghibli’s ‘From Up Poppy Hill’ to ‘Frozen’ and ‘The Wolf Children’.

The international competition ‘Wide World’ to find the best animation for children had an enormous response the results of which audiences of all ages will enjoy on Monday and Wednesday.

For years, I've collected newspaper headlines that leave me thinking "And....?". A top example was a piece in the Express & Echo: 'Police choir sings'. A headline that wasn't quite.

TeenStar Competition comes to Exeter

Following the success of local “Teign-star” Luke Friend, winner of the national TeenStar Competition 2013 and finalist in last year’s X Factor, the TeenStar Competition 2014 has decided to start their new search in Exeter.

Initially hosting auditions on 8 February, Teen Star have unearthed more new local talent and the successful performers will compete at the SouthWest Regional Final live show at the Corn Exchange Venue on the afternoon of Saturday 30 March 2014.
