Free Cider and Summer Tunes Come to Devon with a Music Series from Thatchers Cider

Free pints, live music and summer vibes

Thatchers is set to delight music and cider fans heading into venues and pubs across the summer with a national 40+ gig series that will visit Devon throughout August.

A mix of Juicy Sounds DJ nights and Summer Sessions acoustic evenings will be held to celebrate what promises to be a summer filled, not just with sport, but with music too.

Events are currently planned for:

The student production of Evita at the Exeter Northcott Theatre is coming this January 29th-31st! This captivating story follows the rise and fall of a nation’s hero. It is based on the life of Argentine actress and political leader Eva Perón, who rose from nothing to become one of the most famous political figures in the country’s history. We caught up with ‎Daniela Goldaracena Parkes, who plays the lead role in Evita, Eva Peron.

From caves to cathedral in music and song

Young singers and musicians from across the region will raise rafters at Exeter Cathedral next week in a special concert of music and song inspired by Beer Quarry Caves.

At its heart is B Sharp Vocal Collective, a choir of more than 160 children and young people from Dorset and East Devon who have been working on original material with professional musicians lead by composer John K Miles.

The concert, on Tuesday (JAN 13) at 7.30pm, is in collaboration with the Woodroffe School and the Jurassic Coast Teaching School Alliance and will see the B Sharp Vocal Collective soloists...

The Mecca bingo club on North Street is hosting live auditions and recording sessions to launch Star Search, a brand new national talent competition being run by Mecca across the UK.

The best singers at the Exeter event stand a chance of joining other local and regional heat winners at a star-studded national final, which is being held as part of a Star Search celebration weekend at Mecca Blackpool in June.

And the overall Star Search winner will receive the ultimate star treatment as their prize, jetting off to Los Angeles on a once-in-a-lifetime trip for two to Hollywood...

Local History Day at St Thomas Library

St Thomas Library is holding a Local History Day on Wednesday 21 January between 11am and 4pm.

There will be a speedway memories display and video footage, a real Falcons bike on display, a St Thomas memories display, churches of Exeter photos, a famous personalities display, a rolling slideshow, and pop-up talks as well as the opportunity for people to bring their own photos to show the St Thomas Local History Group.

Godspell, Wicked composer Stephen Schwartz’ legendary rock musical is back.

Following the enormous success of 2014’s gala performance at London’s Shaftesbury Avenue’s Lyric Theatre, in support of the charity Make-A-Wish-Foundation®UK, Godspell In Concert is set to tour the UK in 2015, opening at the Hackney Empire on 4 April.

Northcott Theatre launches new season

Exeter Northcott Theatre has put its backstage heroes, the technical team, centre stage as it launches its spring/summer 2015 season.

Art branches out at Exeter University

A fascinating and unusual new artwork has been added to the University of Exeter’s Streatham Campus, in the form of a sculpture wound around the branch of a tree and suspended in mid-air. The sculpture, entitled White Entwined, was created by Devon artist Deborah Duffin. Organic in shape, it hangs from the tree like huge exotic flower, fading from pink to white and is made from a multitude of wire collected over many years. Duffin often uses recycled materials in her work and observes the natural world to inform her creative process. The explanation for her interest in creating a sculpture...

Bingo nights at Tiverton Golf Club

Exeter residents are invited to bingo nights at Tiverton Golf Club, which are now open to the public.

The club's first bingo night of 2015 is on Friday 9 January (7.30pm).

Jim Bray, social committee chairman, said: "We've recently been granted a premises licence by the district council and this offers a great opportunity to open some of our events to the public and let them sample our excellent facilities.

"If you enjoy a game of bingo, we'd be delighted to welcome you for a fun, friendly and relaxing evening."

Devon’s Crealy Great Adventure Park is pleased to announce they will be working in partnership with Radio Exe in 2015 to host its very own radio request show ‘The Crealy Jukebox’.

Every Sunday lunchtime from noon to 2pm, Devon’s Crealy Great Adventure Park’s general manager Josh Haywood will be returning to his roots as a radio presenter, having previously been a presenter on Blackpool’s Radio Wave, Bristol’s Star 107.2 and on Coast Radio in Somerset before joining the Crealy team in 2010.
