BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend Exeter line-up revealed

BBC Radio 1’s Scott Mills this morning announced the line-up for BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend Exeter 2016, revealing that acts including Mumford and Sons, The Weeknd, Iggy Azalea, Nick Jonas and Jess Glynne will perform at Europe’s biggest free ticketed event at Powderham Castle on 28th and 29th May.

Exeter artist wins Searle Award for Creativity

Anna Kressler, a second year BA (Hons) Photography student from Germany, has landed the Eaton Portrait Prize for “Sterrin”, her photograph of a young girl living in a refugee camp in the Dunkirk suburb of Grande-Synthe.

The award, which is generously sponsored by former Anglia Ruskin Photography student Andy Eaton, comes with the first prize of a MacBook Air. An exhibition of the shortlisted work is on display outside the Mumford Theatre on the Cambridge campus until 23 April.

Music, food and crafts at family festival

Tickets to a new family friendly music festival in East Devon are selling fast.

The Altitude Village Festival, which takes place in Blackborough on the weekend of May 20 and 21, will see performances by high profile local and regional bands, including Sound of the Sirens, Bristol reggae band Talisman and Mark Morriss of The Bluetones.

As well as music, there will be children’s entertainment, crafts, and a huge range of street food and drink. The event is being held to raise funds for local charities, including Blackborough Village Hall.

Teignmouth group win RAMM Art Show

Teignmouth-based art group Flying Colours has won the opportunity to display their work in Exeter’s Royal Albert Memorial Museum. Their exhibition will be from Saturday 30 April to Sunday 29 May.

The 2016 Local Art Show competition was supported by the Express & Echo with readers voting for their favourite. The exhibition is part of RAMM’s Naturally Inspired season of botanicals, gardens and landscapes and Exeter Art Week.

Demand for Dylan’s art sees Exeter gallery release new works

A series of striking paintings from cultural icon Bob Dylan have been released as signed limited edition graphics by the UK’s leading fine art publisher, Washington Green.

Following unprecedented demand for 'The Drawn Blank Series' – which was first translated into limited edition graphics in 2008 – Washington Green has published six of the most iconic images from the collection in never before seen colourways. Graduate theatre company hits crowdfunder target

Argosy Arts, a creative production company formed by students from the University of Exeter, have reached their £2000 Crowdfunder target in just 15 days. The group are raising money for their debut theatre production, ‘The House of Edgar', due to performed at the Edinburgh Fringe this August.

The group have announced a new stretch target of £3000 which they hope to hit in the remaining week of the campaign. If they reach this figure they will be able to hire radio microphones for the cast, improving the sound balance of the show.
