Your essential guide to What’s On in and around Exeter this weekend (5-7 May)

THEATRE

La Strada
Friday & Saturday, Exeter Northcott Theatre
La Strada ‘The Road’, a metaphor for life, is a deeply impassioned tale of love and loss. We journey into the heart of the Italian countryside where Gelsomina, full of the innocent spirit of youth, is bought by Zampano, a travelling street performer, to join his ‘strong man’ act. When the mismatched pair stumble across a ragtag circus and a daredevil tight-rope walker, Gelsomina finds herself caught between the two men, not knowing which way to turn…  https://exeternorthcott.co.uk

A Day in the Night of Emily Hayes

‘A Day in the Night of Emily Hayes’ written and directed by Danny Strike is a compelling piece of pathos and humour not afraid to face the sad truth and consequences of sleeplessness but never losing sight of its potential comedy as well-in all a humane and insightful theatrical piece. The North! The North!
Friday & Saturday, Bike Shed Theatre, Exeter
A dark contemporary myth about England featuring highly physical storytelling, film and animation.  “In 1985, a fissure formed at England’s centre and split the north from the south. A giant tear through the landscape, a real gap, descending into an abyss of bottomless depth. And in the north, cut off, things began to stir. Beneath the moors and the rivers, in the valleys and by the sea.” It begins with a phone call and some shocking news. A young man, seeking vengeance for the wrongs of the past, begins a quest that will lead him on an extraordinary, surreal journey back to where it all began: the dark and bloody heart of the North. It’s a tale of dancing alone in clubs at 3am, the bad things that happen to us, and the stories we make up in response. www.bikeshedtheatre.co.uk

The Dreams Of Anne Frank

Dreams of Anne Frank vividly brings her story to life in a poignant, beautiful and highly charged drama.
