Literature Works is delighted to announce the line-up for the first ‘Word on Tour’ event, kicking off a 26-venue live literature tour of local libraries in the South West.

On 10th January, Bideford Library will host acclaimed novelist Jane Feaver and folk singer and song-writer Jim Causley.

Jane Feaver is a prize-winning Devon-based novelist and short story writer, who lectures in Creative Writing at the University of Exeter.  Jim Causley is well known for setting the work of much-loved Cornish poet Charles Causley to music, forming an exciting pairing at this unique event for library goers.

Ciara Eastell, Chief Executive of Libraries Unlimited, the charity that runs Devon’s libraries, said: “We are really excited to be hosting a number of ‘Word on Tour’ events at our libraries across Devon, and it’s fantastic to see two artists lined up for the launch of the literature tour at Bideford Library. Our libraries have so much to offer, and by hosting live events and activities we hope to welcome existing library users as well as new members of the community who might not have visited us before.”

Both Feaver and Causley’s work focuses on rural life and traditions, offering a unique look at country life that is sure to make this event very special. The tour is designed to celebrate the rich writing and performance talent of the South West, reaching places that have less access to cultural opportunities.

Helen Chaloner, CEO of Literature Works said: “Word on Tour is about bringing the region’s writing and performance talent to the door of local communities.  Our local library is an essential shared space that is open to all.  We hope audiences will embrace these fun, celebratory performances.”

The tour will continue in libraries across Devon, taking in Okehampton, Tiverton, Ilfracombe, Cullompton, Torquay, Paignton, Brixham and Petroc FE College libraries. Some exciting names have already been confirmed for these events including performance poets Jonny Fluffypunk, Elvis McGonagall and Matt Harvey and writers Patrick Gale and Nikesh Shukla.

Further writers and performers will be announced shortly. Follow Literature Works and the hashtag #WordonTour on social media for all the latest updates.
