Haunting Julia

Edge Comedy Club: Dan Thomas
Saturday, 8pm, Barnfield Theatre, Exeter
Headlining this month’s Edge Comedy Club is Dan Thomas, an award-winning Welsh comic who now performs at all the UK’s high profile venues such as The Glee Clubs, Highlights, The Comedy Store, Komedia among others. A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum
Friday & Saturday, 7.30pm, Public Hall, Budleigh Salterton
Imperial College Musical Theatre Tour’s production of this musical comedy. Set in ancient Rome, Stephen Sondheim’s famous farce tells the tale of Pseudolus, a wily yet affable slave, and his dreams of something higher than a life of servitude.  Box office:  01395 445275.

Sidmouth Folk Festival 2013

Sidmouth Folk Week is a unique week filled with folk music, singing, dancing, pub sessions, concerts, and cream teas, focused in the centre of Sidmouth and on the sea front. As well as live music from the likes of Show of Hands, Miranda Sykes and Maddie Prior, expect ceilidh dances, social dance bands and callers, workshops, a dance display, processions, craft fair, a themed children's festival, fun and games and more, with the festival spread across several venues throughout the town.  www.sidmouthfolkweek.co.uk

Blow Your Wig Summer Special

With the controls set for the heart of the mid 20th century, expect a juke joint rabble rousing set of vintage classics and crowd pleasing anthems that take in 50′s R&B, Rockabilly, 60s Soul, Ska and Garage rock that’s sure to bring out the twisting Thurman and Travoltas in you. Take Two and ABBA Salute
Saturday, 8pm, Seaton Tramway
For one night only Take Two and ABBA Salute - a summer night out at the Tramway - dance and sing along to Dancing Queen and Waterloo, dust off the moth balls and put on those ABBA outfits. Wonford Community & Learning Centre Fun Day & Family Dog Show
Saturday, 11am, Queen Elizabeth II Playing Fields (Wonford Playing Fields), Exeter
Fun for all the family which includes a fun fair, tombola, raffle, bouncy castle, dog show, stalls, face painting and lots more, 11am-3pm. Entries from 11am for the family dog show, judging at noon - £1 entry per class. Free admission.

Sindy's Pecorama Party Day

Nature trail
Daily, 10am, The Donkey Sanctuary, Sidmouth
Why not explore the wild side of the Sanctuary with a self-guided nature trail. Knights and Dragons Week
Starts on Sunday, Powderham Castle, Kenton
Join the brave Sir Drew P Drawers as he meets dragons and other magical folk on his quest in this medieval fairytale! Activities at set times throughout the day.  All dragon themed activities are included in the admission price. www.powderham.co.uk

EXHIBITIONS

Poetography for the All Generations by Meia Allegranza
The Cafe, 76 Fore Street, Topsham
Poetography for the All Generations showcases Meia Allegranza’s two passions, photography and poetry, as she brings together 14 of her favourite Photos and poems. This is Meia’s first solo exhibition, and has been inspired by her life, news events, the sights and sounds of Devon, and local traditions.  The exhibition is free and runs until 31 August. The cafe is open 10am-4.30pm. 

Elena Steer
A la Ronde, Exmouth
Local talented artist Elena Steer returns to A la Ronde with a summer exhibition entitled The Guilded Duck, an eclectic mix of still life paintings. Entry to the exhibition, which runs until 14 August, is free. Normal admission applies.   www.nationaltrust.org.uk/a-la-ronde

Vivien Leigh Exhibition
Topsham Museum
From 3 August until the end of October, Topsham Museum hosts a poignant and special exhibition celebrating the centenary of the birth of Vivien Leigh, featuring the famous nightdress Vivien wore in Gone with the Wind. The collection will be enhanced with an evening and day dress on loan from the RAMM and additional items from Bill Douglas Centre and Bristol Theatre Museum.
